Space2Grow #4 – The Micro Fund

Young Barnet Foundation is excited to launch Space2Grow #4, a 2018 micro fund for the smallest of our VCFSE Members (up to £250,000 annual turnover).   There is a total of £7,500 available in grants of up to £250.

This fund is designed as a quick and easy way to access a pot of funding to contribute towards Members’ costs associated with an unfunded opportunity or core resources that will help them develop professionally or administratively.

What Can You Apply For?

In essence pretty much anything.  See Space2Grow#2 Micro Fund page on our website for example of funds paid.  More examples are shown below:

  • A Trip with your young people.  Take them to an event or venue that your current funding wouldn’t allow them to experience.

  • First year’s Upshot Licence – Upshot is the Monitoring and Evaluation tool of choice promoted by Young Barnet Foundation.   Whether you use just the basic online register tool, or some of the more advanced functions, Young Barnet Foundation suggest this a cost-effective way of measuring and evidencing the success of the work you do.

  • London Youth Membership – The membership fee opens the door to an extensive range of excellent training, all included within your membership fee.   It offers funding pots especially for London Youth Members, and the opportunity to hold the accredited Quality Mark. This Quality Mark comes with its own funding and will provide your organisation with a badge of excellence which is recognised by funders.  More information on the member benefits HERE

  • Other Memberships such as the NCVO (who offer lots of great policy templates among other great benefits).

  • Training Opportunities – such as those provided through the Small Charities Coalition.  HERE

  • IT Licences – check out TT Exchange for significant Charitable discounts on well known software.

  • Printer / Photocopier -  £250 will cover your first year’s rental of a Ricoh photocopier via In Kind Direct.  Including servicing and ink.  More information  HERE

  • Other Equipment – for example the 2017 Space2Grow Micro Fund gave funds for a juicer to run a juice bar as part of a project, and a digital camera to record and publicise the work of a youth domestic violence organisation.

Funding Criteria

Applications will initially be scored against the following funding criteria:

  • Applications can be for any amount up to £250

  • Annual Turnover of your organisation must not exceed £250,000.   This small fund is best suited to helping the smallest organisations.

  • Must be to aid the delivery of services to children and young people aged 0-25, (funding can be used to cover the project/activity/services/programme cost, training, venue costs or capital equipment where these are directly related to the application).

  • The fund is operated on an inclusive basis and applications are equally sought for projects/activities/services/programmes for children and young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities.

  • All relevant sections of the online application form must be completed in full.

  • Projects/activities/services/programmes that include matched-funding are acceptable.

  • Applications which are solely for capital items (equipment) will also be considered.

  • Each application will be judged on its own merits and be subject to the judgement of the Grants Officer.

  • Applications for staff/volunteer or trustee training will be considered, where there is a clear benefit to the applicant’s organisation in delivering services to children and young people, and it can be demonstrated that it is clearly linked to the aims and objectives of the YBF.

  • Applications must not be retrospective (i.e. something that has already been paid for).  This must be for new expenditure.
