FUNDED PROJECT INFORMATION

We are pleased to confirm £46,766 worth of funding to 7 Young Barnet Foundation members delivering projects that target children, young people and/or families whose social, emotional and mental wellbeing needs are greatest. This funding has been provided via London Borough of Barnet Family Services

Community Focus - £7,200

‘ARTs for you’ is a creative programme tailored for young people with additional needs and mental health problems who live and work in the Borough of Barnet. It consists of a series of projects that aim to enhance the positive mental health and emotional well-being of 16 – 25 year-olds. Classes last between 1.5 and 2 hours, to be held weekly for a total of 6 sessions.

Face Front Inclusive Theatre - £6,000

Whisper Me Digital will help children in Barnet who are experiencing domestic violence to get the support they need. During these times of Covid-19 restrictions, it’s more important than ever.

Who's it for? This project will help school children in years 5 & 6 (aged 9 to 11) and those aged up to 19 in special schools. It particularly reaches those children who are experiencing domestic violence, many of whom are suffering in silence.

What: In previous years, Whisper Me Happy Ever After, a touring theatre production, was seen by thousands of children. Now, it’s not possible to physically tour into schools. Instead, we want to create a digital version that includes a film, a mixed-media forum and an enhanced education pack. With your help, Whisper Me Digital could go into 50 schools in Barnet reaching 6,000 children and 120 teachers/TAs.

Kick Action Academy - £3,300

To build on the work and positive outcomes from our'In Her Endzone' project already achieved /delivered in the N12 area of Barnet. Providing football training sessions for young females in West Hendon, Colindale and Burnt Oak and members of 'Youth Realities'.

Fulfil Your Potential - £6,572

Running two therapeutic groups for young people aged 16-25 years, with a particular focus on those who have experienced domestic abuse.

Barnet Carers Centre - £7,964

Barnet Young Carers aims to run a coordinated wellbeing and resilience programme to children and young people with caring responsibilities in the west locality of the London Borough of Barnet to restore emotional, educational and social capabilities strongly impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. This initiative draws on evidence that clearly indicates an increasing number of young carers struggling with anxiety, fear and low mood as a direct consequence of the coronavirus pandemic as well as the emerging number of children and young people who have become young carers for the first time during the pandemic. As a result, the children and young people have been faced with psychological pressure, impacted academic/educational attainment and other important challenges. The programme is intended to be implemented throughout the academic terms of 2021.

The majority of our most vulnerable young carers live and/or study in the west locality of the borough with approximately 312 families, in comparison with 264 in the East/Central and 149 in the South localities.

Community Network Group CIC - £8,000

We will provide a Covid secure Farsi speaking community hub in Barnet.

Function as

  • as a food bank for those who are in food shortage;

  • a supplementary school for disadvantaged young migrant beneficiaries who struggle at their school subjects;

  • consultancy and advice bureau for parents;

  • employment support agency for young people aged 16 to 24

  • employability training for unemployed young people during the weekdays.

  • 1:1 and small group/family sessions as well as psychotherapies on weekday afternoons and evenings.

face to face Saturday school for children where we will have academic lessons, arts, music, dance and sports activities

SOTO Inspires - £7,730

SOTO Sessions host a weekly timetable of inclusive and accessible arts-based classes in dance, drama and music. Sessions are devised to captivate young people aged 5-25 years both of mainstream and targeted backgrounds. SOTO's emphasis is to access and engage marginalised youth through performing arts, establishing relationships and creating and developing a safe space for young people. SOTO sessions support and aid mental health and wellbeing, encouraging boosted confidence, stability and emotional support.

All projects agreed to work to the terms of the NYA Guidance on best practice in light of the Coronavirus pandemic.  As a funder we agreed to be flexible and understanding if the ability to delivery at the originally projected times or participant numbers had to change based on government restrictions and subsequent NYA guidance.
