A Sporting Chance - New Sports Opportunities for Children & Young People Across Barnet

Young Barnet Foundation (YBF) is delighted to announce funding for nine local sports projects across the Borough run by our members and partner organisations. Funding from ‘Sportivate’, a Sport England programme funded by the National Lottery, will help deliver fun and inspiring taster sessions for a wide range of young people, particularly those not currently engaged in sport.

YBF worked with the Sport and Physical Activity Team at Barnet Council to review programmes proposed by local community and voluntary organisations. The six to eight week projects will run in different areas of the Borough with sports including: basketball, tennis, golf, and girls and boys football. The delivery partners for this are: Community Focus; Hendon Sea Cadets; Suberbos; Wingate and Finchley Football Club (Hadley Wood Sports Trust); Old Ford Golf Club; Maccabi GB and The Barnet Refugee Service.

Young Barnet Foundation Chief Executive Janet Matthewson explained:

“Young people need opportunities for fun, growth, connection, success and celebration and as part of our ‘Space to Grow’ mission, Young Barnet Foundation wants to help them access local opportunities, in safe spaces, to grow and develop to be the best that they can be. These activities supported by the Sportivate programme will encourage young people to get active, working towards a *Fit and Active Barnet”.
