Barnet Community Response Fund
At the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic in March 2020 the Barnet Community Response Fund was launched. Since then it has helped thousands of Barnet residents by awarding funding to community groups working across the Borough.
Join our COVID-19 community response efforts
Barnet Together has put together a task force to tackle Covid-19 in the community and we’re calling on you to become a ‘Community Champion’ because we are #strongertogether
The residents of Barnet have been incredibly generous in their donations and the fund has been supported by the London Borough of Barnet, providing financial contribution, helping our community to support each other during the lockdown periods.
Nine Waves of small grant funding along with a Main Grant (to the sum of £106,249) have been awarded (details here)
This is an independent fund, administered on behalf of Barnet Together (A collection of Barnet Charities) by Young Barnet Foundation. It is open to all community and charity groups supporting the Coronavirus community effort in the London Borough of Barnet. Young Barnet Foundation are taking no administrative fee for managing the fund, 100% of all donations (after any donation platform fees) are going towards the community fund.
Community Response
Our community continues to provide extraordinary levels of support, from running food banks, cooking and delivering hundreds of meals to collecting shopping for those in vulnerable categories or self isolating. We salute everyone involved in this effort.
The Barnet Together is working with Barnet Council to ensure a coordinated approach to supporting these groups, to ensure support, food and activities are available for residents.

Your money will go straight back into our community to directly help the most vulnerable.
“We’re really grateful for the generous individual donations we have received so far, and the news that the council will be match funding up to £25k of these donations is fantastic. This will help us and other charities in the area meet the increasing demands of the community.” Janet Matthewson, CEO of The Young Barnet Foundation.

HOW YOUR DONATIONS ARE BEING USED
The generous donations from the residents and businesses of Barnet are being used for the Small Grants. An ever growing pot of funding that is distributed every week or two to community groups. The fund has been topped up with grants received by the Barnet Together partnership from Covid-19 response funds and a commitment from Barnet Council to match the first £25,000 donations
The funding has been used to provide necessary supplies to foodbanks, to aid the cooking and distribution of meals.
In addition, Barnet Council committed to a further £50,000 which is being used in a 'Main Grant', offering grants of up to £2,000. The purpose of this grant is wider than the small grants and will be assisting not only with the basic support around food but also to support other projects supporting communities during the lock-down and easing of lock-down period.
See below for a breakdown of the distribution of funding to date.
